Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day
Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day
Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day,
When skies are bright and winds are soft and clear?
But no, thou art more fair in every way,
More constant than the fleeting days of year.
The summer sun, though warm, can burn too bright,
And fleeting clouds may dim its golden glow.
But thee, my love, art steadfast in thy light,
A beacon that will never cease to show.
Thy face doth shine like morning’s gentle dawn,
A glow that sweeps away the darkest night.
Like flowers in the field, thy beauty’s drawn,
A bloom that stays, untainted by the light.
When summer fades and leaves begin to fall,
When days grow short and nights grow long and cold,
Thy radiance shall linger, standing tall,
A fire that burns, eternal, never old.
For thou art more than nature’s fleeting bloom,
More gentle than the winds that softly blow.
Thy love, like stars, shall never meet their doom,
A light that shines through time’s unending flow.
The summer’s warmth may turn to winter’s chill,
And autumn’s leaves may fade into the earth.
But thou, my love, will hold me with thy will,
Through every storm, through every test, through birth.
Thy laughter, sweet as songbirds in the spring,
Thy touch, a balm to heal the deepest scar,
Are gifts that Time cannot destroy or bring
To end the love that burns within my heart.
For in thy eyes, I see the endless skies,
A world of hope that never will decay.
Though seasons change and time may pass us by,
Thy love will bloom, forever in its sway.
So let the world grow cold and winds grow strong,
Let fleeting days and moments swiftly flee.
For in thy heart, my love, I do belong,
A place that holds eternity for me.
And when the years have passed and time is done,
When summer’s days are but a distant dream,
Thy love will shine as brightly as the sun,
A beacon in the endless, timeless stream.
For beauty fades and seasons drift away,
But love, like stars, will never cease to stay.
So shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?
Nay, thou art love eternal in every way.
This poem draws inspiration from Shakespeare's famous sonnet, examining the timeless and enduring nature of love, comparing it to the fleeting beauty of a summer's day while ultimately celebrating its strength and permanence.
Love, beauty, timeless, summer’s day, constancy, enduring, eternal, seasons, strength, affection, poetry, devotion.
