Aldric and the Spirit of the Sea
The Ballad of Aldric and the Sea
In a land where the waves kissed the shore,
And the winds sang songs of ancient lore,
Lived Aldric, a sailor bold and free,
Whose heart did long for the endless sea.
His father, a fisherman, strong and wise,
Taught him to cast nets ‘neath the skies,
To read the stars and the moon’s pale glow,
And follow the tides wherever they’d go.
But Aldric’s soul was wild and untamed,
Not bound to the land, nor by fame,
His heart was ever drawn to the deep,
Where the ocean’s secrets lay asleep.
One eve, as the sun did set low,
A storm arose with a mighty blow,
The waves did crash, and thunder did roar,
As Aldric sailed to the distant shore.
His ship was small, but his courage great,
He sought the sea, though it tempted fate,
For in its depths, he believed there lay
A treasure more precious than gold or clay.
Through howling winds and the crashing tide,
Aldric’s ship did bravely glide,
But then, the sea, in a fit of rage,
Brought forth a storm, a tempest’s cage.
The thunder clapped and the lightning flashed,
The waves rose high, the ship was dashed,
And Aldric, with a heart full of dread,
Knew that the sea might claim him dead.
In that moment, a voice did call,
A whisper that rose above it all,
“Fear not, brave sailor, for I am near,
The sea’s embrace is nothing to fear.”
A shadow rose from the ocean’s deep,
A figure, fair, from the waves did leap,
With hair like sea foam, eyes like the night,
And a voice that shone with a silver light.
“I am the spirit of the sea,” she said,
“Come forth, brave Aldric, leave your dread.
For in my depths, all souls find rest,
And in my waves, you’ll be blessed.”
The storm did cease, the winds grew still,
And Aldric felt a sudden thrill,
For in her eyes, he saw the truth,
That the sea’s embrace gave eternal youth.
The spirit smiled, and with a wave,
She calmed the storm, and the sea did behave,
And Aldric knew, deep in his heart,
That from the sea, he’d never depart.
For though the land may call him home,
His soul was now forever to roam,
In the depths where the ocean’s song,
Would carry him forever, proud and strong.
The sailors spoke of Aldric’s fate,
How he sailed beyond the mortal gate,
And in the sea, where the waves did roll,
He found his peace, and healed his soul.
And so the ballad of Aldric was sung,
Of a sailor bold, whose heart was young,
Who sought the depths, and found his way,
To the endless sea, where he’d forever stay.
Through every storm, and every tide,
Aldric’s spirit still does ride,
For in the sea, his soul is free,
Forever one with eternity.
